Frequently Asked Questions

As we are a small business, we are very flexible when it comes to pick up & drop off for our vehicles. Our main location to deliver would be Dunn Place Car Park (3 Davey St, Hobart TAS 7000)
We are also very happy to deliver to these hostels:

Please send us a message if you would like to pick up or drop off at another location; we will be happy to assist you.

When it comes to the airport, we will be delivering the vehicle at the “Public pick up & drop off” area, just 2 minutes walk from the airport main entrance. Here is a Google Maps pin you can easily follow: https://goo.gl/maps/2yH1sU29ZGxQzp82A

Most of the time, we are flexible with times, so if your flight is outside of our opening hours, just send us a message or an email, and we will be glad to arrange something for you.

City cars cannot be driven on beaches. When it comes to 4wd vehicles it’s possible to drive them on hard sand, close to the water. Although, Explora’s insurance will not cover any damage to cars that occurs from being taken onto a beach, so we recommend that you avoid it if possible.

Of course! You can take our vehicles anywhere in Tasmania, just keep in mind that Explora’s insurance will not cover any damage to cars that occurs from being taken onto a beach. If you are planning to camp at Cloudy Corner, the campground is at the far end of Cloudy Bay Beach with no roads leading to it, and is only accessible by following the beach. However, there are many other campgrounds available throughout Bruny Island that are easy to access.

All our cars use unleaded 95 or 98. Just remember the tank needs to be full when returning the vehicle to the drop off location.

We understand that you don’t want to think about this, but if you experience an accident or encounter any issues with the car, please call us on +61 400 591 150 as soon as possible. We will arrange everything for you.

All our vehicles come with a Premium MAIB insurance that covers passengers’ hospital expenses in case of an accident. However, at Explora, we work with a bond/deposit system, which means you will have to leave a deposit when you pick up the car to cover the insurance excess in case of damage or an accident. This deposit will be fully refunded when you drop off the vehicle, and we check that everything is okay. For this reason, we don’t sell insurance, but we always recommend our customers to travel with Roadside Assistance, which is personal and can help you in case of a breakdown.”

As the camping equipment will use more room in the car, we can accommodate up to 4 people depending on the car size. Please note that this will incur an extra cost of $16 per day. However, we do not recommend it for city cars, as it may be too tight for the passengers. For our 7-seaters, we can definitely provide camping gear for the additional travelers.

Yes! When you book a car with us, you don’t need to pay extra for camping gear (unless you’re taking a 4th passenger, then it will have an extra cost of $16 per day).

The National Park Pass in Tasmania is a type of permit or ticket that grants visitors access to the national parks and reserves within Tasmania. It allows individuals or groups to explore and enjoy the National Parks around the island.

The pass typically needs to be displayed on the vehicle’s dashboard or carried by visitors while they are inside the national parks. Different types of passes may be available, including single-entry passes, multi-entry passes for a specific duration, or annual passes for frequent visitors. The cost of the pass can vary depending on factors such as the duration of validity, the number of people covered, and any additional services or amenities included.

As the owner of the pass needs to be present while it is used, we can’t provide it with our vehicles. You can easily purchase a ticket online: https://passes.parks.tas.gov.au/, otherwise you can get it from the visitor centres, park entry stations, tourist offices, travel agencies or some outdoor equipment stores.

If you get one online please email it to info@explora.au and we can print it out and display it on the car for you.

Yes! You can, it is just $18 per person per day and you can pick up the camping gear from Hobart. Simply visit our “Camping gear” section to book.

Yes, you can. Simply fold the middle seats of your 4WD forward, and you’re good to go. When it comes to city cars, we recommend you sleep inside the tent to have a better sleeping experience.

As we are a small family business, we are more flexible in regards to this, so you can drive with a provisional license. However, you must display your P plates at all times. Please keep in mind that Explora’s insurance will not cover any damage to the car under these circumstances.

We are also flexible when it comes to age, so you definitely can. However, we will require you to leave a bond of $1500, in case of any damage to the vehicle.

We know you are having fun during your holidays and we don’t want you to miss a moment of the beautiful Tasmania. So, if the car does not have too much sand or dirt inside or outside, you don’t have to clean it. If the car comes back too dirty, we will apply an extra surcharge of $50 discounted from the bond.

If you would like to give it a clean, we recommend you to do it at a self-service car wash, for less than $10 you can clean the car outside and inside.

When making an online booking, you can use your credit/debit card to pay 30% of the booking fee. The remaining amount will be due upon picking up the car and ensuring everything is in order. Additionally, the bond will also be collected at that time.

To cater to our international clients, we have established an international business account with Wise. This option enables you to pay the bond in your currency directly to our account, eliminating the need for currency exchange fees.

We hope this information clarifies the payment process. Should you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

At present, we operate as a family business from our homes rather than maintaining a dedicated office space. To ensure privacy and security, we only provide our address to customers when they need to collect a vehicle or camping gear. If you need to get in contact with us, feel free to send an email, message, or give us a call. While we’re actively working towards establishing a physical office, for now, we’ll continue with this arrangement.
