I’m so glad I chose Explora for my first solo road trip! The whole experience was flawless from start to finish. ??🚗🌲
Joice was incredibly responsive and answered all my questions via email before I booked. She recommended the Toyota Kluger, which was the perfect choice for my winter trip. It comfortably fit a double mattress in the back, making it ideal for sleeping in.
All the camping gear worked perfectly, and I had everything I needed. Sebastian and Joice even provided a second sleeping bag and two extra blankets to keep me warm during the cold winter nights, which I really appreciated.
Everything went so smoothly that I decided to extend my trip by a few extra days, and the team were more than happy to accommodate my request.

Packs were very clean, in full working order with no issues, and pickup and drop off was easy. There is even a "camping pantry' where you can help yourself to items other campers have donated. Great service and price. The Male 65L backpack was only a S/M size and my partner is XL so it was a bit tight on him, so something to consider if your a big man. One of their customers had parked their car across the driveway of a doctor's surgery therefore blocking patient access. I had a fantastic 11-day camping holiday in an Explora car with basic camping gear provided, excellent value. I loved camping and hiking at Tasmania's beautiful beaches, mountains and forests and I appreciated the flexibility to choose and change my stopovers and routes along the way. I found it comfortable to sleep in the car (Kluger with back sets folded) and convenient not having to set up a tent in variable weather. I appreciated Explora's help and attention to sustainability including their mini-shop where you can select unused items donated by previous customers, then at the end of your trip leave your spare items for future travellers. Explora is a genuine local family business run by friendly super-helpful owners. I'm so glad I found Explora, would highly recommend. Big thanks to Joice and Sebastian and Maxi :)

Amazing service, I messaged them with less than 24hrs notice and said I'm not sure what my car is going to be from a normal rental service and if I could let them know the next day and they managed to get a whole camping set-up and battery pack ready within 1.5hrs obviously recommend giving more notice but amazing service and great equipment also check out their pantry before hitting the shops

We did a full loop in 4 days and made absolutely the most out of it being able to stay in cool campgrounds with all we needed in the car.If you are reading this to tos up if to go for it  now just do it. the car comes with everything you need to have the best time, all camping equipment on point, we literally just got the cheapest flights and it made it so easy for the rest of it. The comunication was very fast, friendly and attentive. Do yourself a favor, grab an Explora car and go to see what a wonderfull place Tasmania is and experience it's stunning nature spots.??? Do I need camping experience?

Not at all. The car comes pre-packed and ready to go. Our route guide walks you through everything, and we’re a phone call away if you need anything during your trip.

What's included in the gear kit?

Tent, sleeping bags, sleeping mats, pillows, camp stove, full cookware set, cutlery, chairs, table, lantern, and a first aid kit. Everything you need from day one.

Is insurance included?

All vehicles include MAIB insurance, which covers passengers’ hospital expenses in case of an accident.

We don’t sell extra insurance, instead, we work with a bond system. You’ll leave a refundable deposit ($1000–$1500) at pick-up, which covers potential damage. If everything’s fine at drop-off, you get it all back.

We recommend having personal roadside assistance, as basic support doesn’t cover things like lost keys or flat tyres. 😊

Where do I pick up and drop off?

Pick-up and drop-off is in Hobart, conveniently located near the airport and CBD. Exact address is provided when you book.

Can I camp anywhere in Tasmania?

Tasmania has incredible freedom camping options. Our route guide includes the best free and low-cost sites so you’re never without a great spot to stop for the night.

Will I freeze in a tent in winter?

Our sleeping bags and tents are chosen for Tasmanian winter temperatures — not summer gear dressed up. Hundreds of people have done this with us in June and July. None of them were cold. That's the right gear, not luck.

We don't own any camping gear at all.

You don't need to own a single thing. The car arrives packed with everything — tent, sleeping bags, mats, blankets, pillows, stove, pots, pans, plates, cutlery, chairs, table, cooler, headlamps. You bring your clothes.

What if we pick the wrong spots and waste the trip?

At every pickup we share a real, honest plan for your trip based on your dates and the conditions — the secret campsite, the best winter tracks, the spots that don't make it onto any travel blog. Free with every booking.

04-

This seems complicated to organise in time.

One booking covers everything. 10% deposit holds your car. Pay the rest at pickup. Dates change? Talk to us — we're flexible. You could sort this in the next 10 minutes.

What if something goes wrong far from home?

You're not dealing with a call centre. Joice and Sebastian run this personally. Car issue, gear question, route change — WhatsApp us and we respond fast. You are not alone out there. That's a promise, not a policy.
