Destination Guide
Pink granite mountains, impossibly blue water, white sand beaches. Freycinet is the most visited national park in Tasmania and it earns every visit.
Getting There
Take the A3 Tasman Highway north from Hobart through Orford and Bicheno to Coles Bay Road. The turn off is well signed. From the turn-off it is another 30 minutes to the visitor centre and campground.
Fuel up in Swansea (30 minutes before the park), there is no fuel inside the park or at Coles Bay. The town of Coles Bay has a small general store for basic supplies.
A Parks Pass is required for all vehicles entering the national park. The Tasmanian Holiday Pass covers Freycinet plus every other national park on the island.
The Walks
Most people come for Wineglass Bay. But the peninsula has more to offer if you have an extra day.
Where You Will Camp
The main campground sits right on Great Oyster Bay with views back across the water. It fills up faster than almost anywhere else on the east coast in December and January, book weeks ahead at parks.tas.gov.au.

Toilets and cold showers • Drinking water • Camp kitchen • Walk to the Wineglass Bay trailhead • Parks Pass required in addition to camping fee ($20/night)
If the campground is full, Friendly Beaches just outside the park boundary is free with no booking and a 15 minute drive away.
