Need to Know
Three models, all chosen for reliability on Tasmanian roads. Here is what is in the fleet, what each one is good for, and what you need to know about where they can go.
The Fleet
We are not a luxury car hire. We are a camping trip company, and the cars are part of the kit. Every vehicle in the fleet is chosen because it is easy to drive, proven to be reliable, and comfortable enough for a two-week road trip.
The Toyota Kluger handles the big group trips like families, groups of four with a full set of camping gear, people doing a serious circuit of the state. The Corolla and Cerato are for couples and solo travellers who do not need the space and want something easier to park in towns.
All three have been good to us. We have driven them in every season, on every road we send customers down, and they have not let us down.
The Cars
Availability varies, check the booking calendar to see what is free for your dates.
The Kluger is the backbone of the fleet and the car we would put most customers in. It is large without being difficult to drive, the turning circle is better than you would expect for the size, and parking in Hobart or Launceston is manageable. The boot is genuinely big enough for a full set of camping gear for four people.
These are older models with high kilometres, and we say that upfront. What they are is proven. Klugers are built to run for a long time and they do. We service them on schedule, they go through a roadworthy every year, and they have not broken down on a customer.
The Kluger is 2WD. It handles sealed roads and well-maintained gravel roads confidently. It is not a 4WD and is not suited to rough off-road tracks, river crossings, or anything beyond a formed gravel road in decent condition.
The Corolla is a smaller, more economical option for couples or solo travellers who do not need the Kluger space. It uses less fuel, is easier to park, and is more than comfortable enough for two people doing a week or two around the state.
Toyota Corollas have one of the best long term reliability records of any car sold in Australia. Ours are well maintained and regularly serviced. For someone who wants a car they do not have to think about, the Corolla is it.
It is a 2WD sedan suited to sealed roads. For most of Tasmania popular routes, the east coast, Cradle Mountain, Hobart to Strahan, that covers everything you need.
Similar size to the Corolla and a good alternative when the Corolla is not available. The Cerato is comfortable, economical and easy to drive. Kia quality has improved significantly in recent years and these cars have been reliable in the fleet.
Like the Corolla, this is a 2WD car suited to sealed and well formed gravel roads. Good for couples who want to keep costs down without sacrificing comfort.

How We Look After Them
Every car is serviced on time. We do not push services out because a car is busy, we book it in and it goes in. Every vehicle has a current roadworthy certificate, checked annually.
Before each rental we go through the basics, like tyres, fluids, lights, brakes. The cars go out clean and in good working order. If something needs attention between rentals, it gets fixed before the next booking, not after.
We are a small team and we use these cars ourselves. We do not treat the fleet differently to how we would treat our own vehicles.
