7-Day Itinerary
The full loop, from west coast, alpine wilderness, the best coastline in Australia, and an island with no cars. All at your own pace.
4.5 hrs driving · the big first day, but worth pushing through
⛺ Camp tonight: Big4 Strahan Holiday Retreat (around $50 per night) or free camping at Strahan Beach.
2.5 hrs driving · an early start if you want the Gordon River Cruise
⛺ Camp tonight: Cradle Mountain Fishery and Camping (around $30 per night). It gets cold up here even in summer. Our sleeping bags are rated for it.
2.5hrs driving · the alpine morning
⛺ Camp tonight: Discovery Parks Launceston or free camping near the Tamar River.
2.5hrs driving · the drive northeast is genuinely beautiful
⛺ Camp tonight: Swimcart Beach or Jeanneret Beach, completely free and right on the water, no booking needed. Cosy Corner North is another favourite a bit further along. In peak season arrive by early afternoon to get a good spot.
No driving · the day most people say was their favourite
⛺ Camp tonight: Same spot as last night. You’ve earned the extra night.
2 hrs driving · to Triabunna, then 30 min ferry to the island
⛺ Camp tonight: Darlington Campground on the island if you’re staying overnight, free with your Parks Pass. Or Orford Beachside Holiday Park on the mainland (around $40 per night) if you’re heading back on the ferry.
